Summer is here, it's hot and a lot of us are dreaming of swimming and playing on the water. Vancouverites are flocking to beaches, rivers and lakes in droves to cool off and soak up the sun. If you've got that dream, but don't have a vessel to take you there, we've just got in a fleet of Paiwen Paddleboards available for rent from North Vancouver! In case you're wondering what the Paiwen SUP is like, here is a short review I wrote a few months ago for a contest on my favourite piece of paddling equipment: Paiwen Prowess The serenity and calm of a peaceful flatwater paddle, or the rush of taking off on the green? Luckily with the Paiwen Paddleboard, you don’t have to decide. One board for one trip – that’s what I call economical and efficient. Lightweight at 25 lbs, the Paiwen really is Canada’s premier Stand Up Paddle board for women. A high-end, beautiful bamboo SUP, it comes with all the bells and whistles so you don’t have to go searching for the details. Complete with a board bag full of special features and compartments, adjustable carbon/bamboo/glass paddle, two sets of fins (for tracking straight on flatwater and cutting through wave chop), fin socks and coil leash, the Paiwen package is as functional as it is fabulous. The new 2015 model now comes in two lengths – 9’ or 10’, volumes of 170 or 160 litres for women weighing up to 190 lbs to 230 lbs respectively. Both lengths come in at 32” wide and 4.5” thick, an optimal size for SUP surfing. The 1” shaft is made of carbon, and is adjustable for people measuring between 4”10’ and 6”6 – perfect for ladies of all heights. The t-grip features an ergonomic handle, with the whole paddle weighing 700 g, that’s about the weight of a loaf of bread. Lastly, in case the versatility of flatwater paddling and sup surfing isn’t enough, the stability of the Paiwen makes it easy to convert the board into a floating mat for your daily asanas or your sweaty SUP fit workout. The Paiwen is more than just a board, it’s a mobile, lifestyle watercraft for women. From paddling the calm, warm summer waters of BC’s Sunshine Coast, to riding waves with Oregon’s epic sea stacks in the distance, the Paiwen is your west coast ticket to get you to those places - to living those moments of magic. Stable, sleek and sexy, if the Paiwen wasn’t so rad and meant to glide through the water, it would be mounted on my wall as a pretty piece of bamboo artwork. But above all, my Paiwen brings me back to that sense of freedom that can only come from the way of the paddle. ***** I am still not sure if I have won that contest (I am not holding my breath), but the review gives you a just of what to expect from the board. Fun fact: the Paiwen is also a local Vancouver-based company, and I know you want to support local business! For more information on rental pricing, click here.
