At Sea to Sky Fitness, our goal is to support you in the pursuit of an active outdoor lifestyle. We love to sweat and believe in the holistic power of fitness not only for physical health, but for mental and emotional health.
When we exercise, our bodies release endorphins - a natural mood elevator. When we feel stronger and become more fit, we also feel more confident in ourselves, and can perform everyday tasks, or practice our favourite sports with greater ease.
We also believe that mother nature’s elements provide an important pathway to physical, mental and emotional health and well-being.
Research has shown that exercising in nature can have benefits above and beyond just the physical benefits of exercise. According to Dr. Greg Wells, Kinesiologist at the University of Toronto, exercising outdoors can improve mental well-being, self-esteem and can even help with fighting depression.
Training, exercising and participating in activities outdoors can also help people stick to their exercise programs, according to one 2004 study. The study found that people who exercised outdoors were more likely to adhere to their programs than those who trained indoors.
According to Wells, being surrounded by plants and trees can also have a positive effect on our bodies. Phytoncides, a chemical emitted by plants to protect themselves from fungus, bacteria and insects, is also beneficial to humans. When you spend time in the forest, there is an increase in cells that circulate through your body and kill bacteria, viruses, fungus and other invaders.
With evidence to suggest the physical, mental and emotional benefits of both indoor and outdoor exercise, our current offerings include:
One-on-one personal training in studio or on zoom
Online pregnancy and postpartum fitness programs
